Death, Taxes, and Merlot
As the Bruins prepare to face Buffalo tonight, Daniel Paille provides an inside look at what it’s like to deal with the uncertainty in the days leading up to Monday’s NHL trade deadline. (As told to Dan Duggan)
As the trade deadline gets closer, you have that feeling like you don’t know what’s going to happen. But you try not to focus too much on it because you don’t want to let it bother you off the ice and carry that over onto the ice. In another sense, it’s just another day that we need to get through. There’s so many changes that happen during the year that it’s kind of the final step. I think just not focusing on it helps out a lot.
With people constantly talking about it it’s tough to avoid, but I think when you’ve been part of it for so long you just try not to focus on it. At this time, I don’t like to read the media about rumors. I just try not to follow along with the rumors. That’s all speculation. Until things actually happen, it’s not really definite. If things happen, they happen.
I don’t think guys worry about it too much. It’s something that we can’t control. I think we just try to enjoy the time we have for however long that may be. Just because someone has to leave or if you leave, that’s not their decision. It’s just that they were told to go.
